Autumn Home Maintenance Tips

Autumn Home Maintenance Tips

As we transition from summer to fall, add these tips into your home maintenance routine:

  • Driveways: Check driveway/walkways for cracks that can worsen in the winter when water is likely to seep in and freeze, causing them to expand.

  • Fireplace: Even if you only occasionally use your fireplace, you should check for damage, hazards, and flue blockage.

  • HVAC System: Before firing up the heat, call in a specialist to calibrate the thermostat, tighten electrical connections and lubricate parts to prevent wear and tear. Filters should be changed when dust and debris builds up.

  • Lawn: Raking leaves and aerating will prevent your lawn and garden beds from suffocating as cold weather sets in.

  • Roof: Stop problems this fall before ice and winter winds turn them from annoyances into disasters. Inspect your roof, checking for damage and make sure gutters are flowing freely.

  • Windows & Doors: Inspect and repair any damaged window or door frames. Install weather stripping or caulking to prevent drafts and lower heating bills.
